DegreeCalc Hub
Methodology: How DegreeCalc Calculates Grades
DegreeCalc Hub uses simple, transparent formulas so students can understand how every estimate is produced.
Weighted average formula
Weighted average = sum(mark × credits or weight) ÷ sum(credits or weight)
This formula is used for many university grade calculations because higher-credit modules should have a larger impact on the final result.
UK degree classification estimates
UK classification estimates usually compare the final calculated average with common bands: 70+ for First-Class, 60–69 for 2:1, 50–59 for 2:2, 40–49 for Third or Pass. Some universities use different rules, rounding or borderline policies.
GPA and WAM estimates
GPA and WAM calculators use the marks, credit points or grade points entered by the user. GPA scales vary by country and institution, so the calculator should be treated as a planning guide rather than an official conversion.
Limitations
- Universities may use different year weightings.
- Some modules may be pass/fail or excluded from classification.
- Resits, compensation, condonement and failed modules may change the official result.
- Borderline and rounding rules vary by institution.
Always check your official academic regulations before relying on any estimate.
